Take a Heli-Skiing Vacation on Mt. Robson

November 8th, 2013 by

Heli-skiing, at Mt. Robson.

Heli-skiing, heli-boarding, heli-hiking, heli-touring – all a heli-good time!

Heli-Skiing. You’ve seen it in movies: some gutsy athlete is dropped from a helicopter onto the snow-covered peak of a mountain and goes roaring down the untouched, vertical face of an alpine snowfield on his skis and what has to be gallons of pure adrenaline.

To most of us, this is a fascinating spectacle but *not* something we think of ourselves doing. It’s hard not to be a little jealous of all that untouched snow up there, though – all those pristine, long slopes and empty glades piled high in dry powder … well, stop being jealous. You CAN do this!

If you’re in reasonable shape and can handle the blue and black diamond runs at the resorts, then you’re ready! You don’t necessarily even need your own equipment to handle the fabulously deep, virgin powder. Most heli-ski operators will have skis or snowboards for rent but, by all means, if you’ve some nice, fat powder skis or a board, bring it! Before you know it, you’ll be flying down some of the most epic verticals you’ve ever dreamed of.

But wait, let’s say whipping down intense verticals is not your idea of a good time but the thought of being on top of the world on an alpine glacier still sounds like heaven. Well, fear not: heli-hiking is also available. Strap on those snowshoes and traipse around the beauty that is Mt. Robson with your family and an experienced guide. Oh, did I mention the included lunch? Yum!

Okay maybe playing in the snow isn’t for you – but you have to admit the pictures look fabulous. Well, how about a heli-tour? You’ve NEVER seen the mountains like this and, believe me, folks: pictures simply cannot do it justice. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to view the top of the world from *above.*

And now for the good news: there’s a heli-skiing operator right near Mountain River Lodge that can set you up for heli-skiing, heli-snowboarding, heli-hiking, or going on a breathtaking heli-tour: Robson Helimagic.

Make your vacation to Mt. Robson one you’ll never forget with lodging at Mountain River Lodge and a day of heli-skiing: you’re bound to have a heli-great time!

Canadian Rocky Mountains Getaway

January 21st, 2013 by insideout

During these long and dark winter months, break up the monotony with a getaway to the stunning and scenic Canadian Rockies. Next month is Valentine’s Day and for those of you celebrating, our Mt Robson Lodge is a secluded and private destination for you and your loved one.

Whether you would prefer the pampering of our bed and breakfast lodging, or the privacy of a self-contained cabin, we have just the right place for you. Each of our cabins has a fully equipped kitchen, romantic fireplace and satellite TV. Pet-friendly cabins are also available – because sometimes, dogs are part of the family!

If you stay in the lodge, we prepare breakfast fresh every morning as part of your stay. Enjoy chatting with other guests, many times international, around the breakfast table!

Stir Fry

Enjoy a delicious meal made here at Mountain River Lodge, especially for you.

Our secluded cabins, along with the lodge, are on the banks of a glacier river. Glass french doors in the cabins provide stunning views of the largest mountain in the Canadian Rockies – Mount Robson.

We think that winter in the Rockies can be the perfect time for a couple to just unwind, cozy up together and reconnect during these quiet months. We serve an evening meal here at the Inn, so if you don’t want to, you barely have to leave the property!

However, if you prefer to explore the nearby mountain towns, we recommend Valemount, about 20 minutes away by car. The quaint town is fun for shopping or having a drink at the pub. We also enjoy the food at Earl’s, which has a lively environment. Fiddle River is a nice place for fish and seafood. And of course, outdoor activities abound.

Bring yourself and your loved one for a getaway in one of the most beautiful places in the world – the Rockies. We look forward to being your hosts!

Helicopter Tours near Jasper National Park

On the drive to our scenic Mount Robson accommodations, visitors pass through the amazing forests and mountains of the Canadian wilderness. Hiking, biking and skiing are just a few great ways to experience the raw natural beauty of this area. There’s another unique way to see area attractions such as Maligne Lake, Mount Robson and Jasper National Park. Since 1996, High Country Helicopter Tours has been offering helicopter sightseeing flights as well as custom tours. There’s a good range of flights to choose from.

The Rocky Mountain Odyssey is the shortest trip available. Get a bird’s eye view of the Rockies’ eastern slope flight during the 18-minute flight.

Most popular is the half-hour Peaks and Passes flight. The dramatic views of the rugged mountain passes are absolutely awe-inspiring.

The 1-1/2 hour Explore Mount Robson flight is the longest tour. See the canyons, glaciers and deep valleys of Jasper National Park as you’ve never seen them before.

There are other sightseeing tours, all flown by experienced pilots who prioritize the safety of each guest. Click here to see the full list of available tours. Flights are offered year-round. Some packages, such as the heli-tour with hiking trip, occur only during the summer months. Of course, all flights are subject to cancellation due to weather conditions.

High Country Helicopter Tours also offer custom flights for personal or business-related gatherings. Just think of having a helicopter flight for your wedding, anniversary, company retreat or family trip! Combined with a stay at Mountain River Lodge, it would be an unforgettable experience.

Helicopters seat four guests in the Bell Jet Ranger or five guests in the Eurocopter A-Star. Keep in mind that sightseeing tours require a minimum of three guests, but custom tours can be booked for one to four or five guests depending on the helicopter’s capacity. To book a flight, contact the Operations Manager, Hjalmar Tiesenhausen at 1-877-777-4354 (toll free) or 1-780-852-0125 (local in Jasper). You can also learn more at www.hcheli.com.

Note: Due to Federal park regulations, take-offs and landings can’t take place from within Jasper National Park. All of High Country Helicopter Tours flights are conducted just east of the Park.

After a high flying heli-tour adventure, you can relax and unwind at our comfortable Mt. Robson lodging near Jasper National Park.
